This was a surprisingly entertaining read. I'm not sure how to classify it, though. Not quite steampunk, not quite fantasy, but somewhere just on the outside edge of both, I guess.The worldbuilding was simple but effective, though I would have liked to have just a bit more descriptions of the settings. The characters came to life very well. The book did not end on a cliffhanger, but did leave a good setup for the next book. My only letdown (minor) was that I would really have liked to see the relationship/possible romance between Amaranthe and Sicarious develop just a bit more in this book.

I have a book addiction that began with Nancy Drew in kindergarten. I've read pretty much all genres, to exclude non-fiction because I love to read for the escapism. I only review books that I feel strongly about, whether for good or bad. I think of truthful, honest, reviews as being there as a 'pay-it-forward' for others.
